pendle social cinema

Pendle Social Cinema is a volunteer-run pop-up community cinema with monthly screenings at The Garage, and an annual weekend-long film festival. We create a social space for film fans and the local residents to come together to share food and film and offers opportunities to gain experience working on a creative community project in areas such as programming, organisation and marketing.

Pendle Social Cinema was set up by In-Situ in 2015, in response to a closing down of cinemas in smaller towns and villages around Pendle, where the cinema had been a hub of the community and this was now lost. The cinema began by touring to various locations, such as Libraries, Brierfield Town Hall, Clarion House, Jim’s Vegetarian Cafe in Colne and Brierfield Mill. In 2018, when In-Situ moved into The Garage, PSC moved in too, and this has enabled us a regular venue to pop up from, and enabled us to build a bigger social event around film.

Our screenings are on a pay what you can basis which we hope makes the events accessible to more people. Our varied programme is designed to open up different types of film genres and themes to new audiences.
